Double C Cattle Company, the award-winning operation run by the Coffey family of southern Oklahoma, is stewarding a culture of prescribed fire in the Arbuckle Mountain region. By combining prescribed fire with mechanical thinning and herbicide treatment, the Coffeys have been able to reclaim thousands of acres of grassland on their ranch. As Chuck Coffey says, “Fire helps maintain grasslands. The three together help reclaim.”
